Special Clearance Permit from Morocco Government Required
The Western Sahara was long the site of armed conflict between government forces and the POLISARIO Front, which continues to seek independence for the territory. Since a United Nations-sponsored ceasefire agreement in 1991, most of the territory has been controlled by Morocco, and the remainder by the Polisario/SADR, backed by Algeria. Travel to the Western Sahara remains restricted; persons planning to travel to the region should obtain information on clearance requirements from the Moroccan Embassy.
