There are two different types of passports available: passport cards and passport books. Both types serve as valid forms of identification and proof of citizenship. However, passport books are required for those traveling by air. Your driver’s license and your birth certificate will not be enough to get you onto the island. International air travel of any sort requires travelers to carry a passport book and there are no exceptions to this rule. Passport cards may be used for international travel by land and/or sea, but cruise lines often require that passengers have a passport book to ensure that they can hop aboard a flight if there’s an emergency that requires them to return to the United States by air.

Passport cards are smaller than passport books, taking up the size of a credit card and having the potential to fit inside your wallet for convenience. They have been made available to U.S. citizens since 2008 and have the same validity as passport books – ten years for adults, five years for children under 16.

Passport books have 28 pages, 17 of which are made to collect visa stamps. While these booklets are required for international air travel, they can also be used for land and sea travel. They’re more expensive than passport cards, costing $110 as opposed to $30. When applying for a passport, you’ll need to be prepared to present multiple forms of identification as well as a photo, so be sure to do your research and double check that you’ve checked off every requirement throughout your preparation process. If you need any assistance, you can check in with one of Travel Visa Pro’s agents, who remain updated on international regulations by working with embassies and consulates worldwide.

Your passport must be valid through the duration of your stay in the British Virgin Islands. This will ensure that you can return to the United States after your trip comes to a close. You should always remember to bring your return ticket and details about any intended adventures beyond your stay on the islands. If you have any concerns or questions, you can reach out to the British Embassy or British Consulate offices.

If you aren’t comfortable contacting an embassy or consulate directly, you can give Travel Visa Pro a call!
