How much is a Tanzanian visa? Types and costs

In general, there are four types of visas available to US citizens: single entry, multiple entry, business, and transit. Business visas allow Americans to stay in Tanzania for up to three months and cost $250. Single-entry visas are valid for up to three months for tourism, students, and business and cost $50. Multiple-entry visas are valid for up to twelve months for business or tourism and cost $100. Transit visas are valid for a week and cost $30.

When you’re applying at a Tanzanian consulate or embassy, staff can accept credit cards, checks, and money orders. However, cash is not allowed.

There are only a few embassies and consulates to India available in the United States, some of which do not accept applications in person or by mail. Rather than arranging travel during normal business hours to visit one of the consulates open for visa applications or shipping out your passport and waiting for a physical visa sticker, the official website can process any online application for US citizens.

Four days is the minimum necessary time to apply for an e-visa to India prior to departure. The official e-visa needs at least four hours to process your $60 payment, and another three days to send everything to consular staff for approval. If your application is approved, you can print everything and present it to immigration on arrival.

How long can I stay in India with a valid visa?

Anyone entering India with an e-visa is eligible to stay for no more than 60 days. However, if you need more than two months in the country, it’s best to apply at a consulate in person for a visa valid from six months to ten years. As with the e-visa, the minimum processing time is four business days. Although you can apply for a business or tourist visa just four days before your date of departure, it is highly recommended that you begin the application process three or four weeks prior to that.

But how far in advance will your application be accepted? 120 days is the maximum. Some embassies and consulates experience long wait and processing times during peak season. Though delays may be common, applying a few weeks before your flight will tip the odds in your favor for a visa being approved. If you have already booked your trip then it is always best to complete the visa application as early as possible just to avoid any possible issues and save yourself from a great deal of stress later on.

Are there any free visas to China?

Surprisingly, there is a way to avoid China visa costs. Visas you can use to actually explore China for more than a few hours as a tourist are relatively new. Recently the Chinese government extended their 24- and 72-hour transit visa (G) policies in some cities to allow travelers to stay up to 144 hours without an official “L” visa obtained in advance. US citizens qualify for these visas on arrival in Beijing and Shanghai (with most other cities still allowing 24- and 72-hour transit visas), provided they have proof of ongoing travel by land, sea, or air, and can provide some of the same information required of tourist visa holders: proof of accommodation, local address in China, etc.

Cambodia visa costs and fees for US citizens

If you’d rather apply for a Cambodian visa from the comfort of home, e-visas are available on the official government website. Applicants will be asked to provide their passport details including a picture or scan of the passport information page, their anticipated date and port of entry, and a picture taken in the last three months.

As always, US citizens should check their passport expiration date to ensure they have at least six months remaining from the day of their arrival in Cambodia. Though the e-visa allows a stay up to 30 days for tourists, this can be extended for another 30 days. Upon completion, the website will provide a confirmation voucher which should be given to immigration officers on arrival.

As for the cost, your credit card will be charged $30 for the e-visa fee in addition to a $7 processing fee. If you need to extend your stay once in Cambodia, this can be done at an immigration office for $45. Business visas, a category of ordinary visas in Cambodia cost $35 for processing, but may be valid anywhere from 1-12 months depending on the purpose of your stay.

Different ways to apply for a visa to Cambodia

Though the e-visa is a cheap and relatively simple way to legally enter Cambodia, those with different travel plans may find a visa obtained in advance from a consulate or embassy is a better option. E-visas are not always able to be used at land border crossings between Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. In addition, tourists with Cambodia as their next destination have the option of applying for a visa by mail.

What is a Limited Validity Passport?

US passports come in many shapes and sizes… figuratively speaking, of course. Rather, it’s a mistake to think of these travel documents as homogenous ten-year books just for adults, when there are a variety depending on how you travel.

Diplomats get their own special passports. Children under sixteen have ones valid for only five years. If you need a second passport for any reason, this one is valid for four years. However, there is another category of passports of which the general public might not be aware. These are known as limited validity passports.

What is a limited validity passport?

Any passport valid for two years or less is considered a limited validity passport. Because standard passport books and cards are issued as ten-year documents for adults and four-year for children, it’s unlikely most US travelers have held a limited validity passport before.

Temporary passports

Temporary or “emergency” passports are one such type of limited validity passport. These documents are usually issued outside the United States after someone’s standard passport book has been lost or stolen. If you have immediate travel plans, the nearest US embassy or consulate can issue a temporary passport good for the remainder of your trip, or just long enough to repatriate yourself.

Such passports are usually given a limit of two days, but exceptions are made on a case by case basis. Although the unexpected loss or damage of a US passport is not entirely uncommon, issuing a temporary passport for US citizens is only done as needed. If you plan on being in one country longer than two weeks, you can pay for expedited processing of a replacement ten-year passport rather than just being issued a limited validity one.

Limited validity passports for gender transition

Those currently undertaking or about to undertake a gender transition qualify for a limited validity passport. Though there is no time limit for the procedure, those who complete their transition within two years and have a statement from their doctor to that effect do not have to pay any fees for a passport renewal. The limited validity passport may be renewed again if you plan on traveling or using your passport as your ID during the transition, but once your transition is completed, you should apply for a ten-year passport book or card.

Limited validity passports for replacing naturalization certificates

US citizens who were not born in the country may need to replace their naturalization certificate before they can quality for a ten-year passport book or card. During this time, two-year limited validity passports are issued by the US Department of State for international travel. Like those going through a gender transition, anyone replacing his naturalization certificate can get a passport renewal free of charge if applying before the two-year document expires.

Limited validity passports for name changes

The fourth and final situation in which a traveler may be issued a limited validity passport is for a legal name change. Unlike applicant undertaking a gender transition or those replace their naturalization certificates, those changing their names are only issued temporary documents valid for one year. After this time, assuming your name change has gone through the system, you qualify for a renewal.

What are the restrictions on limited validity passports?

The fees for limited validity passports are the same as those applying for renewals or first-time documents with Form DS-11 – $110, $60 for expedited processed, $25 execution fee – with the notable exception that no additional fees are required if applicants apply for a renewal before their passports expire.

As for emergency passports, they are generally limited to a few days to get the traveler back to the US. In some cases, if you provide your travel itinerary and reasons for travel, the consular section can make the emergency passport valid for up to one year at their discretion. These cases are rare, and it’s usually best to apply for a replacement ten-year passport if you plan on traveling for a while.

When travelers do use the emergency passport to complete their original trip, the consular officer must list all the countries to which they’re traveling, with specific entry and exit dates; those with loose plans will not be accommodated. In addition, any visas that were present in the lost or stolen passport will most likely need to be reissued.

Do Both Parents Need to be Present for a Child Passport Application?

According to the US Department of State, anyone under the age of 16 is classified as a child and only qualifies to receive a passport book or card valid for five years. Both parents or legal guardians of that child must authorize the US Department of State to issue the child’s passport by having all three appear in person at a regional passport office.

However, exceptions can be made for one or neither parents being present for a child’s passport application. Work schedules may not allow one parent to escape during normal business hours, or the child may only have one legal guardian in the first place. In situations like these, the US Department of State allows the child’s passport application to go through provided Form DS-3053, Statement of Consent: Issuance of a US Passport to a Minor Under Age 16, is included.

Form DS-3053 allows for one parent to appear in person with the child for their passport application as long as the other has completed the form giving their approval for a passport to be issued in their child’s name. This must be filled out in front of a notary public with the parent’s photo ID. Because Form DS-11 is still the application form used for a five-year child’s passport, DS-3053 isn’t required for a passport application unless one parent cannot appear.

In addition, if neither parent is available to appear under certain circumstances (NOT including imprisonment, mental incompetence, etc.), DS-3053 may be used. Both parents must fill out the form in front of a notary public with their IDs and authorize an agency like Travel Visa Pro to apply on behalf of their child. If one parent is unable to sign these form, proof of his or her absence must be provided along with the other forms.

How many times would both parents need to be present?

Only one appointment is required for application, but unlike with adult passports, which are valid for ten years and require less paperwork with a renewal, child passport applications essentially require the same number of forms, photos, and documents for renewals as they do the first time. Assuming the parents start traveling with their child early, both parents would need to present themselves at the passport agency or fill out DS-3053 with a notary three times before their child turned 16.

Special circumstances when one or both parents can’t be present

Form DS-3053 may be used for many cases when either or both parents can be with their child for their passport application, but others fall under Form DS-5525, Statement of Exigent/Special Family Circumstances. If one parent is in prison, subject to a restraining order again the other parent or child, or subject to custody order which leaves them unable to sign DS-3053, then Form DS-5525 may be used.

One parent may also have sole custody of their child; a court order to this affect must be provided with DS-3053. Essentially, if any legal guardian of the child is involved in any situation leaving them unable to appear, then there must be legal documents included with the passport application form.

How to apply for a child’s passport

Consider the aforementioned and prepare DS-5525 and/or DS-3053 along with Form DS-11 to a regional passport office or a nearby Travel Visa Pro. In addition to this, proof of the relationship with the parents, proof of the child’s US citizenship (birth certificate), and the parents’ original photo IDs must be provided. Photos of the child showing age progression are necessary for renewals.

Payment varies for a child’s passport application. The standard $110 processing fee for adult passports stands alone for mail-in applications, but these don’t apply for children due to one or both parents needing to be present. A $25 Execution Fee is required at regional passport offices in addition to the $80 processing fee. Expedited service is also available for $60.
