Do You Need a Passport to Go to Mauritius?

Mauritius is a fun tourist vacation that, while removed from the African mainland, still boasts a hoard of amenities. So, you can enjoy your stay here while enjoying the things you do back home. But do you need a passport to go to Mauritius? The answer is yes!

All Americans traveling to Mauritius must have passports that meet the following requirements:

  • They must be valid for the duration of the stay. For example, if you plan on being in Mauritius for six months, the passport should be valid the entire time.
  • They must have at least one blank page. You will need more pages if you plan on transiting through another country before heading back to the U.S.
  • They should be in good condition. Besides normal wear and tear, your passport should not have signs of damage or alteration.

Also, you cannot use a passport you have declared lost or stolen. If your passport does not meet the above requirements, you must get a new one or renew your current one.

Can U.S. Citizens Travel to Mauritius?

There are currently no restrictions on entry and exit into Mauritius. However, please note that if you test positive for COVID-19 upon arrival, you must stay in quarantine.

Mauritius Entry Requirements for U.S. Citizens

Can U.S. Citizens Travel to Mauritius without a visa? Yes! You get a visa upon arrival on the island once you present the following documents:

  • A valid passport that meets the requirements outlined earlier,
  • An onward or return ticket that shows you plan on leaving the island, and
  • Evidence of sufficient funds.

Presenting these documents will allow you to stay on the island for up to 60 days. However, the immigration authorities have the last say on who accesses the island. And they may thus require more documentation to assess your eligibility. Be sure to carry any other supporting documents.

If you are not a tourist, the Mauritius Entry Requirements for U.S. Citizens differ as they will hinge on your tour purpose. Travel Visa Pro can help you assess the right visa for your trip.
