Do You Need a Passport to Go to Prince Edward Island?

Prince Edward Island is a Canadian province. And thus, Canadian entry requirements will apply. So, do you need a passport to go to Prince Edward Island? It depends on how you get to Canada:

a)  By Air

U.S. citizens flying into Canada are subject to international air travel regulations. And they must have valid passports regardless of their age. These passports should meet the following conditions:

  • They should be valid at the time of entry. If you plan on flying back into the U.S., the passport should also be valid at the time of departure. So, if you have an expired passport or one that can expire soon, you should get it renewed.
  • They should be in good condition. Mutilated and altered passports are not acceptable. You should replace these with new passports.
  • They should have at least one blank page for the entry stamp. If your passport no longer has blank pages, you should renew it.

Passport copies are not acceptable as proof of a travel document. If your passport is lost or stolen, you must get another one.

  1. Adults: You can use WHTI-compliant documents such as a passport card,
  2. Minors: They should use their birth or citizenship certificates. Also, they should be under the watch of a parent or guardian. If that is not the case, the accompanying adult should have a notarized letter of consent from the primary parent or guardian.

If you don’t have a valid passport, you must leave Canada by road as you cannot board a flight.

c)  By Sea

You can get to Prince Edward by cruising. The passport requirements depend on the cruise line. Some may ask you to have a valid passport for emergency evacuations, while others may not.

PS: A valid passport is essential even if you will not use it, as it can help you evacuate in an emergency.
