If you’re planning a trip to Samoa, you are in luck. There is a lot to explore, from the landscapes, waterfalls, beaches, and villages on the island down to the natural rainforest. You can swim with turtles, explore hiking trails, watch flying foxes and birds, venture into the deep waters, snorkel, dive, and pretty much become an islander. But can you do this without a passport? Let’s find out:

Do You Need a Passport to Go to Samoa?

Do you need a passport to go to Samoa? Samoa has eased the travel restrictions for the U.S.A and other select countries, which explains the influx in tourism over the past few years. Even so, any American citizen traveling to Samoa must hold a valid passport that should be valid at the time of entry. Moreover, this passport should have one page for the entry stamp. Thus, if your passport has fewer than 6 months of validity left or has expired, we advise that you get it renewed. T.V.P. processes renewals and new passport applications, and we can have you ready for your trip in no time!

Samoa Entry Requirements for U.S. Citizens

The entry requirements depend on how long you plan to stay in the country and what you wish to do. If you are traveling as a tourist for fewer than 90 days, you will not need to process a visa. Instead, you will enter the country if you have the following documents:

  1. A valid passport at the time of entry,
  2. A return or onward ticket, and
  3. Proof that you have enough financial means to support your stay.

Thus, your paperwork will be on the minimal side. If you wish to stay longer than 90 days, you can request an extension from the immigration office. However, that is not always guaranteed, and it is best to secure a relevant visa before leaving the U.S.

Travelers who wish to stay for months or are traveling for other reasons should always process visas in the U.S. before departing. Otherwise, you will be denied entry upon arrival. You can talk to our staff about visa options depending on your purpose. In most cases, you must provide supporting documentation to the immigration department, such as travel itineraries, employment contracts/ work engagements, bank account statements, etc.

When Is the Best Time to Go to Samoa?

The Samoan climate is quite favorable as it boasts a tropical vibe. However, when you visit the island during the rainy seasons (the hot and wet season), you will not have much of a chance to explore its natural wonders. The trails can even be dangerous, and the waters may be too rough for swimming and other water activities.

The hot seasons can be unbearable for people who are not accustomed to such temperatures. Samoa is generally very hot between December and April. It is thus best to visit Samoa between June and September, when the weather is typically dry and the weather feels cool. Temperatures during this cool and dry season range around 29/30 °C (84/86 °F).
