Do You Need a Passport to Go to St Croix?

Traveling in and out of the island counts as domestic travel and is thus subject to the travel terms in the U.S. But do you need a passport to go to St Croix? 1. Minors
The best way to identify minors is to use a passport book. But if you don’t have passport books for your children, you can still travel with them, provided you provide one of the following documents:
- A birth certificate,
- A naturalization certificate,
- A registration certificate,
- A consular report of birth abroad,
- A passport card, etc.
You should provide a document that establishes their U.S. citizenship and serves as their proof of identification. If you cannot access their original birth certificate or an equivalent, you can use the hospital-issued birth certificate.
When traveling with minors, you must have documentation establishing your relationship with them. For example, a birth certificate can prove your parental or guardian relationship. If you are not related to the minors, you should have notarized consent from their parents or guardians, showing you have the legal right to travel with them. Else, you can get held back at the border for investigations as there have been many abduction and custody issues in recent years.
Do you need a visa to go to St Croix with minors? You do not. However, if you will tour non-U.S. regions during your vacation, you should get visas for the respective locations.
2. Adults
You must show documents that prove you are a U.S. citizen and can identify you. A passport book is the best way to go about this. But if you do not tour other regions other than the USVI, you can use any of the following documents:

- A trusted traveler card, or
- A REAL ID.

- Closed-Loop Cruises: These cruises start and end at U.S. ports. Thus, travelers can board the ships without valid passport books and instead use WHTI-compliant documents. Even so, the passport requirements depend on the cruise lines; some may insist you have a passport book.
- Standard Cruises: These cruises start or end at non-U.S. ports. Thus, you will eventually leave the U.S. territory and need a passport book to return to the mainland. The passport book should be valid, in good condition, and have sufficient blank pages.
Even where a closed-loop cruise does not require you to have a passport, having one benefits you as follows:
- It opens up more travel opportunities. For example, you can travel to other regions that require passport books and get more out of your trip.
