Cozumel is an island on the Caribbean Sea and one of the municipalities of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is known for its tourism, diving and charter fishing economy. How to Get To Cozumel?
There are non-stop flights available directly to Cozumel from Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Houston, and Charlotte. You may also opt for connecting flights from Cancun. At the airport, shuttles can be booked near the kiosks of people selling timeshares.

Do You Need a Passport to Travel to Cozumel?
Yes, a valid passport that is at least 6 months away from its expiration date is required from US citizens when entering Cozumel. US citizens serving in the US military who are on active duty, with a valid military ID and travel orders; and Serving marine officers who can present a valid Merchant Marine Document to the border force do not need passports to enter Cozumel.
Also, US citizens taking closed-loop cruises are not required to have a passport but will need proof of citizenship such as government-issued ID, birth certificate, etc.
The passport is required alongside other documents. They include;
- Official Mexico Tourist Card – Entry Immigration Form (FMM). All foreign citizens travelling to Mexico must fill out an Official Entry Immigration Form prior to their arrival. The tourist card is per person, regardless of age. The registration is free and done online. - Proof of a return flight ticket and purpose of visit.
- Proof of sufficient financial funds to cover your stay, such as a bank statement.

Do you need a Visa to Go to Cozumel?
A US citizen visiting Cozumel for less than 6 months does not need a visa. However, a visa is required if you are staying longer than 6 months. If you are planning to work in Cozumel, even if for a short duration, you should apply for a work visa.
Covid-19 Protocol
Generally, Cozumel does not require any Covid-19 test for entry. However, Covid-19 preventive protocols such as, wearing of facemasks, 2meters physical distancing, hand washing and use of hand sanitizers must be adhered to. Also, you are required to seek medical attention when feeling unwell.
In accordance to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) directives, Cozumel has the facility to conduct Covid-19 test for re-entry into the United States.
