You should be very careful with your personal possessions and travel documents in cities and other popular tourist destinations. Do not leave your belongings unattended. You should be alert when withdrawing cash from cash machines. Extra care is needed when walking at night in cities and towns. Women traveling alone should take extra care because there have been cases of serious sexual assault against foreign nationals in Fiji.

What Currency Does Fiji Use?
The Fijian dollar has been the currency of Fiji since 1969 and was also the currency between 1867 and 1873. It is normally abbreviated with the $ sign, or FJ$ to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. It is divided into 10 cents. Frequently used currencies in Fiji are $5, $19, $20, $50, and $100 while rarely used currencies are $7 and $2000.
